  • KUDO for Microsoft Teams Live Events Attendee Guide
    1. Join the webinar on Microsoft Teams Live Events.

    2. To follow the event in a different language, click on the “KUDO Web Link” provided by the event organizer.

      This will open a webpage with the “KUDO language selector”.

      Here's an example of the link: https://audio-widget.kudoway.com/xxxxxxxxxxxx

      You can access the page on any device, including desktops, laptops, mobiles, and tablets, regardless of the device you are connected to the event on.

    3. Choose your preferred language from the language dropdown. The interpretation will start coming through.

      If available in your event, click on the "CC" to turn on closed captioning in your selected language.

      On the bottom of the screen, you can click on the "globe" icon to change your interface language.
      Note: this does not select the interpretation language you want to listen to during the event.


    4. If you select a spoken language, you may have to mute the original audio from the event on Microsoft Teams.

  • How to implement the universal auto-floor API for KUDO Language Access Widget

    This article explains how to implement KUDO's universal Autofloor API into third-party platforms integrated with the Language Access Widget.

    How does the feature work?

    This feature automatically mutes/or lowers the floor audio when the attendee chooses a language channel and unmutes/raises the audio if the chosen language is spoken on the floor. Not only does this enhance the overall user experience but enables participants to interact in different languages during virtual events.
     
    In practice this is what happens:
    1. The participant opens the KUDO language selector in the 3rd party platform and selects a language.
    2. If an interpreter is providing interpretation (their mic is active) we send a call to the platform to mute or lower the volume of the original audio.
    3. If an interpreter is NOT providing interpretation (their mic is inactive) we send a call to the platform to unmute or raise the volume of the original audio.
    4. When the participant selects “Original Audio” from the KUDO language selector, we send a call to the platform to unmute or raise the volume of the original audio

     

    Before you start

    You will need the following:

    • A KUDO client account that can schedule meetings with KUDO Language Access (KLA) widget enabled.


    Implementation

    KUDO uses JavaScript’s Window.postMessage() method to safely enable communication between KUDO iframe and the 3rd party meeting web platform. Based on Interpreter availability for the selected language channel, KUDO posts messages informing the 3rd party platform whether it should mute or unmute the main meeting’s audio.

    On the 3rd party platform, the developers need to listen to the dispatched messages with the help of the window.addEventListener method as shown below:

    • Our KUDO iframe sends the event message data to the one level up parent window. It works in Single-level hierarchy iframe.

  • How to use the KUDO Language Access Widget as a participant

    This article will give you a brief overview of the Language Access Widget and how to select your preferred language during an event using this solution.

     

    What is the KUDO Language Access Widget

    The Language Access Widget is a language selector that can be embedded into 3rd party platforms, such as Hopin, ON24, GlobalMeet Webcast and others.

    The integration connects KUDO's Interpreter Console to these platforms, which allows the interpreters to access the event and interpret the language into the respective language channels.

    The solution supports up to 32 languages per event, including spoken and sign languages.

    How attendees can access interpretation via the KUDO Language Access Widget

    1. Join the original event

    Follow the instructions provided by the event organizer to join the meeting on the 3rd party platform, the website hosting the event.

     

    2. Locate the KUDO Language Access Widget within the event page

    If you would like the Language Selector to be displayed in a different language, click on the globe icon globe_widget.svg on the bottom of the Widget and choose from the 11 available languages. The default for the widget will be according to your browser language preference.

    • AR - Arabic (العربية)
    • DE - German (Deutsch)
    • EN - English (English)
    • ES - Spanish (Español)
    • FR - French (Français)
    • IT - Italian (Italiano)
    • JP - Japanese (日本語)
    • PT - Portuguese (Brazil) (Português)
    • ZH - Chinese simplified (中文(简体)

     

    3. Choose your preferred language from the Select Language list

    Follow the instructions provided by the event organizer to join the meeting on the 3rd party platform, the website hosting the event.

    • The interpretation will start coming through.
    • Mute the original audio in the platform or website's player.
    • If you want to listen to the original audio of the meeting, select Original Audio in the KUDO language selector, and unmute the platform or website player.
    • If captions are available for this event, after you selected your language in the selector, a "CC" icon is available. Click on this icon to get live captioning in the selected language.

  • How to use the Language Access Web Link

    This article will give you a brief overview of the Language Access: Web Link and show you how to set up a meeting that will use this solution.

    The Language Access: Web Link brings KUDO's Advanced multilingual capabilities to onsite, hybrid and online events.

     

    How does it work?

    Your onsite or online event is streamed into the KUDO platform for the interpreters to access the original audio and video content live. Interpreters work from the KUDO Interpreter Console (that can be connected to your onsite physical booths as well) to provide live simultaneous interpretation in the languages of your choice. The event attendees can access the interpretation for spoken (audio) and sign (video) languages on a separate webpage like the one below.

    Event organizers simply share the KUDO Web Link with the participants, who will be able to access the KUDO Language Selector on this webpage, from any web browser and any device (mobile, tablet). The solution is perfect for following the interpretation on your phone during onsite events!

     

    How to schedule a meeting that will use the Language Access Web Link

    1. Log into your KUDO Client Account*

    Click on "Schedule a Meeting" on the top right-hand side.

    2. Add the meeting information:

    • Meeting title: which will be visible on the top of the KUDO Meeting screen as well as on the invite emails
    • Time zone
    • Start time and end time: make sure to add buffer time before (for preparation, soundcheck) and after (in case the meeting goes longer) the actual meeting time,
    • Languages: make sure to add all the languages that will be spoken during the meeting (including the original / source language)

    3. Enable KUDO Language Access

    Click on “Advanced Settings”, scroll down to "Language AccessWidget" and select "ON".

    KUDO Language Access Widget is disabled by default during meeting creation. The configuration (enabled/disabled) cannot be edited once the meeting has been created.

     

    • Captioning: (optional feature available at a fee) enables multilingual captioning live during the meeting. Captioning is currently available in the 11 languages below.
      • English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, Arabic and Japanese.

     

    4. Click on “Save” to confirm the meeting creation.

     

    Share the meeting links

    1. After scheduling the meeting, the KUDO Web Link will be generated.

    You will be directed there automatically after scheduling the meeting but can also access this page later by logging into your KUDO client account and clicking on the scheduled meeting of your choice.

     

    2. Share the Web Link with your attendees

    Look for the Web Link in the "Language Access" section and share the Web Link with your event attendees.

    While it is good practice to share the KUDO Web Link to the attendees within the event invite/instructions, we highly recommend sharing again the Web Link directly when the meeting is about to start:

    • In the chat of the online event/meeting platform
    • Via a printed QR code at the onsite venue

    How attendees can access interpretation via the KUDO Web Link

    1. Join the original meeting/event

    Follow the instructions provided by the meeting/event organizer to join on the 3rd party platform, the website hosting the event, or the onsite venue.

     

    2. Access the KUDO Web Link

    Once in the original meeting/event, click on the KUDO Web Link provided by the meeting organizer. You can use any device (computer PC or Mac, mobile, tablet) and any web browser.

    • Choose your preferred language from the Select Language list.
    • You will start hearing the interpretation audio (or video, for sign languages).
    • If you are listening to the interpretation, mute the original audio from the original event platform or website player.
    • If you have multilingual captioning available for your meeting, enable it by clicking on the "CC" next to the language drop-down menu.

    The interpretation will start coming through when the event starts. If the interpretation has not started yet, you will see a message "Interpretation in this language is not available right now". Try again later.

    3. Change the Language of the Web Link if needed

    If you would like the Language Selector to be displayed in a different language, click on the globe icon globe_widget.svg on the bottom of the Web Link and choose from the 11 available languages. The default for the Web Link will be according to your browser language preference.

    Overview

    Users that would like to include interpreters in their meetings or webinars that take place outside of KUDO, now have the ability to enable language interpretation for those meeting.

    Our Universal Widget will stream the audio directly to the events platform/website, allowing users to switch between the audio channels, while still watching the video provided by the hosting platform. Sign Language is supported, in this case, we will stream the video captured by the sign language interpreter.

     

    Prerequisites

    • Have an account on KUDO;
    • The Universal Widget will need to be enabled for your account; 
      • Note: If you don't have this feature enabled, contact support or your account manager to request it.

     

    Setup

    1. Login in to your account;
    2. Create a meeting on KUDO, and add the desired languages, and details.
    3. While creating the meeting, click on the Advance Settings, and switch KUDO Universal Widget ON.
      1. NOTE: Once a meeting with this feature has been created, you cannot change it. If you would like to host your meeting on KUDO, you will need to create a new meeting.
    4. Save your meeting;
    5. Paste the generated code (iframe) in your hosting platform;
    6. Interpreters and Operators will need to access the generated KUDO link.
    7. We will not generate a link for Participants, as they will be accessing the events platform directly

    Interpreting

    Using the Universal Widget, Interpreters will be working directly from KUDO. We will stream the language channels directly to the hosting platform, which will be available through the generated language selector.

    All the functionalities available for KUDO-hosted meetings will be available for Interpreters on these types of meetings.

     

    Moderating the meeting (Operators)

    Moderating such a meeting will be limited to the Interpreter related features.

     

    Capacity

    Our capacity limits for KUDO-hosted meetings apply.

    Small meetings:

    Our capacity calculator will provide you with the correct number of attendees that you can have.

    Large meetings:

    You can have up to 3000 attendees/channel.
